Organized
labor is a part of United Way both nationally and locally. The AFL-CIO
policy on community services encourages state federations and local
councils to support the United Way structure by assisting with
fundraising and supporting human service delivery systems. Locally, the
United Way of Howard County and the Howard-Tipton Counties Central
Labor Council have an established partnership that begins with the
AFL-CIO Community Services Liaison (CSL), a position that has existed
within the United Way since the 1950’s. The CSL program was
established to meet the needs of workers in the community and assist
each United Way in obtaining funds and volunteers through the labor
community. To find out more about available services and programs,
